Officials will not pursue charges, blaming photographer

By Matthew B. Zeidman

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Today)

6/17/08 –

Britney Spears has to deal with paparazzi whenever she steps out in public, but prosecutors are sending the message loud and clear that photographers following the pop princess had better watch their step.

They have refused to act on a lensman’s claim that his foot was run over by Spears in November while she backed up her car amidst a large crowd of people.

“We have no evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the suspect [Spears] was aware that the victim’s foot had been struck by the car,” Deputy District Attorney Joseph Shidler stated in a written report.

He also asserted that the injury was the photographer’s own fault for placing his foot directly in the path of the vehicle.

Spears has been involved in several car-related mishaps over the past year, including a low-impact collision this past April and pleading guilty in October 2007 to driving without a valid driver’s license.

In August 2007, she hit allegedly left the scene after hitting another car in a parking lot, but settled out-of-court with the owner.

Her other problems aside, it is difficult to react to 30 paparazzi jumping in front of your car every time you go to Rite-Aid.

Gisele Bunchen is tired of the lengths people will go to to try and prove her good looks are manufactured.

The 27-year-old flawless model was hailed by Forbes magazine as the highest paid in her profession -
raking in $33 million in 2007 and $38 million in this year.

And Bundchen, who has graced the covers of more magazines than any other supermodel and is the face of over 20 brands internationally,
admits she’s tired of skeptics convinced her looks have been altered to achieve such Brazilian perfection.

She explained her frustration to GQ magazine,

The other day, a girl on my plane was pulling my hair.
She was like, ‘I just want to check…’ This is all my hair, by the way.
I did not have extensions.”

On Tuesday, Billy Ray Cyrus popped by the “Today” show to promote his reality show “Nashville Star.”
While there, Meredith Vieira asked about the controversy surrounding daughter Miley Cyrus‘ Vanity Fair pictures.
He said,

I wasn’t there when that pictures was taken…
I didn’t know they was gonna strip her down and wrap her with a blanket…
I was surprised when I saw it …
but, hey, that’s life.
Stuff happens… my dad always said,
‘The more you stomp in poop, the more it stinks.’

After being taken to the hospital earlier today in London for fainting,

Amy Winehouse is now expected to return home.

Winehouse underwent tests at The London Clinic to see what had caused her to collapse.

In a statement, her spokesman said,

Amy was at home when she briefly fainted.

Fortunately, her manager’s assistant was there to stop her falling.

She quickly recovered and her father, Mitch, took her to hospital as a precaution.

He stressed that the hospital visit was a precautionary measure only, not “an emergency dash”.

With 216 days left in office, George Bush has finally gone green.

Dubya got a parting gift from a group of schoolchildren in Northern Ireland on Monday --

a flowery plant with the words The Mighty Bush written across it.

Is there anyone who doesn't want to give Bush something?!

Mozilla web browser ‘Download Day’ launch delayed by two hours
By Robin Rowe

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today)

6/17/08

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 was scheduled to launch at 10am this morning, aiming for a Guinness Book of World Records in the number of software downloads.

Mozilla enlisted the aid of affiliates and fans around the world to launch Firefox 3 today.
Something went awry with that plan.

At 10am, those who got through at www.mozilla.com were greeted with the familiar Firefox 2 banner.

Two hours late, at noon, Firefox 3 finally appeared on the Mozilla site.

Will the 8 megabyte download overload the Internet as fans worldwide download the software?

“Our servers are currently feeling the burn and should be back to normal shortly,” said Mozilla blogger Melissa Shapiro this morning.

“Download day will officially commence once the site goes live.”

Mozilla blogger Mary Colvig had announced in February that Firefox had reached the 500 million downloads milestone.

Expectations are high today for Firefox 3 creating an Internet frenzy and network traffic jam.

“We’re just over 12 hours until the start of the long-awaited Download Day!” said Colvig yesterday, giving no hint of a delay.

“Our Guinness World Record attempt will start when Firefox 3 is officially launched at approximately 10 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 17th.”

There’s no announcement yet at blog.mozilla.org that Firefox 3 has launched or an explanation for the delay.

One reason Firefox 3 is important is Firefox 2 experienced memory thrashing problems.

Firefox 3 was put on a much needed memory diet, making it free web pages from memory when no longer needed.

In Firefox 2 the memory manager can run amok, dragging down the whole system by causing the disk to thrash for minutes

Firefox 2 users were surprised that when either Firefox or Thunderbird memory thrashes, both applications are paralyzed

Although Firefox and the Mozilla Thunderbird email program are separate applications, they share memory management when both are running.

Not all users experience memory thrashing problems.

Macintosh and Linux systems are more forgiving of memory fragmentation than Windows.

Firefox is estimated to have more than 21% of the worldwide browser market.

That’s big business, with Google reportedly paying the Mozilla Foundation $20 million a year in advertising fees.

Firefox installs with Google as the default home page.

Firefox is #2 to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has mostly settled monopoly lawsuits that stemmed in part from bundling its browser with the Windows operating system.

Many say Microsoft got off too lightly.

Firefox is perceived as fighting the good fight for software freedom and diversity.

Mozilla Firefox evolved from Netscape, which was founded when a group of students left the Mosaic browser project at the University of Illinois.

After Bill Gates famously stated the net would never amount to anything,
Microsoft caught up by licensing Mosaic as the basis for Internet Explorer (IE). Netscape later
charged Microsoft with putting them out of business through unfair “bundling” business
practices.

Netscape couldn’t sell their browser when IE was “free” (provided you bought Windows).

Netscape was acquired by AOL, mostly as a portal destination.
The non-profit Mozilla Foundation was spun off to do future browser development

No more rumors needed folks!

After much speculation (because people are sooo damned concerned to know who’s doing who), it is official that Rihanna and Chris Brown are a couple.

Either that or, they just like to grope each other in the pool for sh*ts and giggles!

The couple have been in Jamaica celebrating Rihanna’s 20th birthday.

A spy for PageSix said,

They were smooching in the pool and were really lovely dovey.

They were playfully making out and he was kissing her on the neck.

They were floating together with him carrying her and she kept saying, ‘Don’t get my hair wet.’

She was very soft and feminine but he was a big kid and splashing around.
