Someone Really Loves Leona Lewis!

Published by Carolina on June 22nd, 2008

Leona Lewis has been offered a $2 million to play a small set for an unknown bidder, according to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.

This puts her in the same ledge as Sir Paul McCartney, who’s also earned similar amounts for personal gigs.

A source tells the publication,

Leona is one of the most sought after stars around.

She has little say in the fee charges - big money sponsors literally name their fee and her management respond accordingly.

She is adamant much of the profit goes straight back to her favorite charities.

Lewis is reportedly worth $12 million, but gives most of her money away to charity organizations.

Cigarette smoking and crack cocaine have damaged lungs of singer Amy Winehouse
By Brian Frederick

LONDON, UK (Hollywood Today)
6/23/08 –

“Amy has damaged her lungs by smoking crack cocaine and cigarettes,” says her father Mitch Winehouse.

“The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won’t just ruin her voice, it will kill her.”

After Winehouse collapsed a week ago at her London home, she was taken to the hospital for tests and remained there all week.
“Amy has early stage emphysema and an irregular heartbeat and has been warned she will have to wear an oxygen mask unless she stops smoking drugs,” says Mitch Winehouse.

“There are nodules around the chest and dark marks.

She has 70 percent lung capacity.”

Winehouse is scheduled to sing at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party in London on Friday and to participate in the Glastonbury music festival on Saturday.
Mitch Winehouse has stated he expects his daughter to perform next weekend despite Amy’s physical state.

“When she’s been inactive work-wise then that’s when the problems really start,” says Mitch Winehouse.

“The doctors have said that medically there isn’t any reason why she can’t do Glastonbury.”

It’s also unclear how Amy Winehouse can need serious medical treatment, yet plan to sing at a weekend music festival surrounded by people likely to offer her drugs.
Her father blames drug dealers for his daughter’s condition.

“I’m saying to those drug dealers, and they know who they are, if they are supplying crack to Amy then they’ve got to take responsibility.”

So far, no illegal drug dealers have stepped forward to accept responsibility.

In 2006, Amy Winehouse released her break-out album, ‘Back to Black’, that received six Grammy nominations, won five and tied the record for the most wins for a female recording artist in a single night.
The success of ‘Back to Black’ is estimated to have catapulted Amy’s net worth to $25 million.

Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, and Kurt Cobain are celebrity members of music’s infamous “27 club”, made up of musicians who died at age 27.
Singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse is 24.

Can she survive three more years?

The Day the Laughter Died

By David Mirsky

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today)
6/23/08 -

George Carlin, an articulate Irishman who led an entire generation to think outside the lines, passed away Sunday night after being rushed to St. Johns Medical Center in Santa Monica.

The cause of death is thought to be from a cardiac condition, which the comedian had been treated for in past years.

Carlin was cutting edge.
He took chances no one else would dare to take.

He created the famous list of “those seven words” you will never hear on TV.

As it turned out, Carlin had to revise that list when the censor’s loosened up their normally strict standards in order for network television to compete with the expanding cable shows, and their increased viewership.

But he did add some new words to that list too.

Instead of rolling off jokes, Carlin would talk to his audience as if he were a college professor, educating his students of the ways of the world…and just how messed up it could be.
He challenged his audience, daring us to think, to question, and ultimately, to speak our minds.

He was the master at pointing out the obvious when it matched up to the insane.

Carlin was the most entertaining and enlightening comedian of a generation, to the Baby Boom generation Carlin was what Bob Hope was to a prior generation.
It’s going to be strange, knowing that George Carlin, who gave us so much is no more.

A great man, known as a political observer, a social observer, a jokester, a clown, an intellect, a humanitarian…a man who told it as he saw it.

George Carlin is survived by his wife and daughter….and millions of devoted fans.
Good bye, George.

Sir Paul McCartney wants all Brits to adopt “meat-free Mondays” to cut carbon emissions.

Cutting out meat one day a week was popular in Australia, where shoppers had become conscious of the environmental impact of cattle rearing and meat production.

Now, in an interview with trade magazine The Grocer, Sir Paul called on UK consumers to cut down on meat consumption even if they could not give it up altogether.

Sir Paul, who is a long-term vegetarian and is the latest celebrity to appear in a Peta advertising campaign promoting vegetarianism, said:

A lot of people go to the gym on a Monday.
With meat-free Mondays, it’s a bit like going to the gym but with the added advantage of protecting the planet.

One of the most significant conclusions of the recent report on climate change was that we should eat less meat.
This is not the Vegetarian Society that said that.

It’s the UN.

Alicia Silverstone, Casey Affleck, and Forest Whitaker have all previously worn the “Eat no animal” T-shirt the former Beatle adorns.
